2020.04.05 23:59 DolSparnur I (22m) can’t seem to find “the click”?

Tl;dr: I want someone so we complement/enrich each other but have a lot of different facets. Am I setting the bar to high?
Hello everyone!
This first paragraph is context: It has been 6 months since my semi mutual break up from a relationship of 3 years (it just did not work out). My ex was energetic, caring and had quite a bit of common sense. She was open minded to my interests, at least as long as all was good. She was also into fitness and extremely sexy. But she was also really toxic. I can gladly say I’m almost over her and also getting more and more open to new girls. I have met some and even had an unsuccessful ONS (I felt too much anxiety as I was not used to the experience). While I don’t date I do “put myself out there”. I have no trouble talking to people or flirting and did speeddating recently. I have multiple facets to my personality: ambivert, reads, laid back, high cuddle/sex drive, interest in philosophy/patterns/psychology/discussions..., very open minded (I can develop an interest in almost anything, + into kink), (video) gaming, anime/fantasy, sports, I take care of myself, I like adventure/nature, I like travelling/being on the road yet also just sitting at home. I like the glamorous, I like the more common parties etc.
Now here comes the problem: I don’t have a full click with any of the girls I meet. My 6 best friends (2 groups of 2 and 2 individuals) are also like me in all those things I named + bring something extra (like instruments or programming ...) But I really want this “full click”. I want my next relationship to be the last. Yet all the girls I have met have not been.. captivating enough? I have one girl friend (not gf) that matches my extroverted personality, sexual drive (did not do anything but I know she’s like that) dirty humor and party going. Another that matches my introvert side, geeky interests, punny humor, discussions, open mindedness but seems to lack the sportiness, gaming,.. The girls I do click with already have boyfriends (and those bf’s are people I really get along with because they are like me).
Am I setting my standards too high for wanting someone with at least most of those things? Or who would like to learn them? I want someone so we not only complement but enrich each other. I would try to bring the same to the table. If she was into art I would also try and get into it for example.
Thanks! I hope I did not come across negatively. I have been told I convey the opposite online.

2020.03.27 18:59 Magunco Are there dating apps or services for introverts?

Hi I am a ISFJ, 26M, living a easy going life in the Netherlands. I am currently 5 years single and it drives me crazy. I had a couple of dates with women from my friend circle, tried some speeddating and I am active on dating apps like Tinder and Happn. On Tinder and Happn most of the people I see are the active outgoing types or don't have a bio at all, while I am searching for a homebody like myself. I am honest in my profile bio and I rather stay home or take some one out on a diner then going to a party or go clubbing the entire night.
I don't get a lot of matches and when I have one it slowly bleeds to death, I don't believe I am socially awkward or don't look attractive or anything like that, I am the one who keeps a conversation going or starts one since most seem to have a problem with that. Yet I keep getting ghosted
So yeah back to the title, are there any dating apps or services for the more introverted people? Or does anyone have advice to give me for dating here as a introvert in the Netherlands?

2020.01.18 01:50 Drycon Rejected for the first time in sixteen years

Yesterday I had a job interview at a large energie distribution company. I had speeddates with multiple people from multiple departments and disciplines. Was an interesting afternoon after all, got a good idea of the work and the people.
Today I got a call that they choose someone else. Reason was that they thought I probably wouldn't fit well in the company. For me that's good enough of a reason but it still sucks. I'm not the type of guy who thinks "meh" and just puts it away. Needs a bit more time.
I'm working for the same company for about 16-17 years now of which the last 10 in the same department. By now the job ofcourse has no secrets for me and I'm pretty bored. The last two years I learned Python too improve my work with more automated stuff and improve efficiency. It also gave me something to focus on during these dull years. But the company is not IT related so there are no new projects for me to work on. That's why I'm trying to find a new job to improve my skills and do something completely different. Not much success thus far.
So that's my sob story for today. It helped me a little to write it down. Sorry for no memes and stuff. ;-)

2019.12.08 20:14 Athemoe chat platform for people on uppers?

Wouldn't it be cool if there were a website called for speeddating (pun intended). Not necessarily dating but a chat platform where people on uppers can talk to each other about anything, seeing as a lot of people, myself included, feel the need to talk about something.

2019.11.13 12:18 RenovatioRC Speeddating advice

Okay, so I’m 20 (m) and dont really have a lot of experience with dating. Being an introvert i didn’t get around much, but a friend has finally convinced me to sign up for a speeddating offer provided by the local university. Essentially, you get to talk to 20 people for 3 minutes each. I The structure is similar to the matching principle on tinder, meaning that you can mark the people you like and in case there is a match, the organiser will provide you with the phone number. Now here are my questions: 1. What is the best way to present myself? Any advice on how to effectively present as much of my character in just 3 minutes? 2. What are some good questions to ask in return? Yes i can always resort to asking generic questions like “Whats your favourite hobby?”, but I dont think that this would come across very well. Any advice?

2019.10.10 00:22 TheDragonHogg Some people from my school that I don't know that well at all recognised me and said hi

I don't really have a lot of friends, aspecially at school. I mean, I say good morning to my classmates sometimes, but that's as far as it goes.
There is this thing that high schools in Norway do (I don't know if schools in other countries do this too) where anyone who wants to can join in making this big comedy scetch show. They're a big thing here and a lot of fun to watch. I decided to join and the first meetup was yesterday. Basically all we did was play games, speeddates and have fun.
I'm usually extremly introverted, but I really came out of my bubble and talked to a lot of people. Now, I don't renember their faces, let alone their names, but today as I was walking back to school after buing lunch at the shop, I walked past some people. I heard them say something like "Wait, was that Emma?" and then I heard them souting my name. Emma is a quite common name and since people shouting it they usually don't mean me, I've sort of learnt to ignore it for a bit.
I did turn around and saw faces I vaugely recognise smiling and waving at me. That immediatly put a smile on my face and I waved back. That small interaction really made my day.
It's amazing, how something so simple as cheerily greeting someone by their name can make them as happy as I was today.

2018.11.29 22:54 dddbbb TIL: g for creating a column of incrementing numbers

TL;DR: Select several lines containing 0 and type g.
I often need a column of incrementing numbers.
In the past, I've used vim-speeddating's blank incrementor which lets you select a line with a number and several lines without and it fills in the blanks with incrementing numbers. But speeddating needs the numbers to be 'words', so code like this doesn't work:
pos_0.x += delta_0; pos_0.x += delta_0; pos_0.x += delta_0; pos_0.x += delta_0;
I'd have to insert spaces around the 0s:
pos_ 0.x += delta_ 0; pos_ .x += delta_ ; pos_ .x += delta_ ; pos_ .x += delta_ ;
Which is annoying because I'm usually copypasting the same line to make a sequence.
But Vim now includes g to accomplish this task! Instead of blanks, it looks for the same number on each line. It also doesn't require block selection.
Combined with textobj-word-column.vim, I can vicg to convert that first code block to:
pos_1.x += delta_0; pos_2.x += delta_0; pos_3.x += delta_0; pos_4.x += delta_0;
For more info:
:help v_g_CTRL-A
Hat tip to chrisbra10 for highlighting this new feature (among others) (and for a long history of contributing to vim).

2018.07.17 20:02 trr90 She asked me to join her speeddating session? what does this mean ?

This girl I went on a few dates with, told me her Sister subscribed her and herself for a speeddate. But now she asked me if I was not interested to come as well. Sounds kinda strange to me, what does it mean ? Does she just see me as friends or is it a positive thing she asked me?

Shit test, she sends me a snap of a speeddate event and says I should go.
The event was 22-29, she says I can still go (because I'm 29 myself) She's 23.
I saw it costed 30€ and just replied:
wow 30€ just to talk to some people (with the crying lauging face)
What should I have responded?
UPDATE: After this she asked me to go out tonight. I did and met het at a small open air party, she was super bored and constantly on the phone. Turned out a guy she wanted was there and she wanted to be seen there with someone else.
I was just there as decoration.
As soon as she saw him making out with another girl she wanted to leave and go home, I left and joined my friends at another bar.

2018.04.23 03:10 SubsaharanAmerican How to Blackpill an unsuspecting Data Scientist: Have them analyze Columbia University's Speed Dating Experiment Dataset (Fisman, Iyengar, Kamenica, & Simonson, 2006)

Some time ago, the behavioral economists responsible for one of the earliest, highly cited studies looking into mate selection choices during speed dating, released their data to a colleague, who subsequently made it publicly available for download. It would take another few years before this goldmine was rediscovered by data aficionados (1, 2), who were quite surprised to uncover the conspicuous contrast between what was emphasized in the published paper on the data, and the striking patterns in the actual data itself. The data showed what may now be considered the mantra of this subreddit: Looks are the strongest predictor of initial romantic interest in both sexes.
First, a look at the original paper:
Title:Gender Differences in Mate Selection: Evidence from a Speed Dating Experiment
Author(s):Fisman, Raymond J. Iyengar, Sheena Sethi Kamenica, Emir Simonson, Itamar
Journal Title:Quarterly Journal of Economics
Abstract:We study dating behavior using data from a Speed Dating experiment where we generate random matching of subjects and create random variation in the number of potential partners. Our design allows us to directly observe individual decisions rather than just final matches. Women put greater weight on the intelligence and the race of partner, while men respond more to physical attractiveness. Moreover, men do not value women's intelligence or ambition when it exceeds their own. Also, we find that women exhibit a preference for men who grew up in affluent neighborhoods. Finally, male selectivity is invariant to group size, while female selectivity is strongly increasing in group size.
Note the complete absence of any mention of the weights of the covariates in absolute terms (rather than the gender-relative terms as they've done here), forcing the reader to guess whether physical attractiveness is important to women at all. I wish I could say this was something limited to the abstract, but the entire paper reads like this (more on this below).
When the junior data scientist Jonah Sinick got ahold of the data and began pouring over the gender-stratified covariate correlation matrices he generated (which, to his surprise, looked identical for both men and women), he was so thrown off by the finding he thought it demanded explanation:
https://www.lesswrong.com/posts/4yTLXdrfCb7zecwQH/the-role-of-attractiveness-in-mate-selection-individual :
I remember being slightly shocked upon first viewing the graphs below:
If we average over all participants, we find that participants of above average attractiveness had twice as many suitors as participants of below average attractiveness.
https://jonahsinick.com/72/ :
The correlation matrixes (1, 2) give the impression of contradicting a claim in the original study:
Women put greater weight on the intelligence […] while men respond more to physical attractiveness.
The apparent contradiction is explained by the fact that the subsets of events that I used were different from the subset of events that the authors reported on in their paper. On one hand, I omitted the events with fewer than 14 people. On the other hand, the authors omitted others:
Seven have been omitted…four because they involved an experimental intervention where participants were asked to bring their favorite book. These four sessions were run specifically to study how decision weights and selectivity would be affected by an intervention designed to shift subjects’ attention away from superficial physical attributes.
The intervention of asking participants to bring their favorite book seems to have had the intended effect. One could argue that the sample that I used is unrepresentative on account of the intervention. But to my mind, the intervention falls within the range of heterogeneity that one might expect across real world events, and it’s unclear to me that the events without the intervention give a better sense for gender differences in mate selection across contexts than the events with the intervention do.
A priori one might still be concerned that my choice of sample would lead to me developing a model that gives too much weight to intelligence when the rater is a man. But I chose the features that I did specifically with the intent of creating a model that would work well across heterogeneous speed dating events, and made no use of intelligence ratings to predict men’s decisions.
Similarly, after the dataset was uploaded to Kaggle, young aspiring data scientists were shocked to find the blackpills waiting for them at the end of their number crunching:
https://www.kaggle.com/jph84562/the-ugly-truth-of-people-decisions-in-speed-dating :
The problem is, and to Fisman et al credit, a careful reading of the original paper -- and, more importantly, the tables -- show these blackpills were there, hiding in plain sight. The authors just, for whatever reason, decided not to draw attention to them.
For instance, here's one of the key tables in their paper from which they derived one of the primary findings statements made in the abstract:
Their interpretation:
The basic results, by gender, are shown in Table III, columns (1) and (2). There is a clear difference in the attribute weights on attractiveness and intelligence: males put more weight on physical attractiveness than females do, while females put more weight on intelligence. This is consistent with the predictions of both the evolutionary and social structure theories of mate selection described in the introduction.
The magnitudes of these differences are large. Each additional attractiveness point (on a 10-point scale) increases male likelihood of saying Yes by 2.1 percentage points more than it increases the female likelihood of saying Yes. This implies that the effect of physical attractiveness is 18 percent higher for males. The implied effect of intelligence on the probability of Yes is 4.6 percentage points for women compared with 2.3 percentage points for men. We look at the statistical significance of these differences in column (3), where we pool all subjects and include an interaction term RatingMale for each attribute; for both attractiveness and intelligence, the interaction term is significant at the 5 percent level. We do not observe any difference across genders in the importance of ambition. When we repeat the same exercise using the average of all subjects other than i, i.e., Rating-ijc, as the measure of partner attributes, we obtain qualitatively similar results (reported in columns (4)–(6) of Table III).10 Hence, the results are not driven by idiosyncratic assessments of the attributes.
I hope the math here is clear. I hope it's also clear why this might be seen as disingenuous. They basically subtracted the female OwnRatings coefficient (0.119) from the males' (0.140), = 0.021, then divided by the female coefficient = "18 percent higher" effect of physical attractiveness. Yes, while technically true, I would argue the more notable finding is the fact that female coefficient is 0.119 (vs the male 0.14) in the first place. Clearly, of the measured covariates, physical attractiveness is the strongest predictor for both sexes. The second major notable finding, IMO, is that the bulk of the explanatory power of attractiveness on the female rater's decisions remains even when only using the average of ratings that OTHER women ("Consensus") gave the male target (column 4).
A similarly rather tendentious interpretation of the data by the authors may be found with regards to Table IV, which seeks to uncover "whether subjects are averse to choosing partners who are superior to them on gender stereotypical attributes, as suggested by social structure theory [Eagly and Wood 1999].":
Their interpretation:
The results are reported in Table IV, columns (1) and (2). For attractiveness, the interaction term is insignificant for both men and women. For ambition, however, the interaction term is insignificant for females but is significantly negative ( p < 0.01) for males. Furthermore, the effect of an increase in ambition above a man’s own level, given by the sum of the direct effect and the interaction term, is negative. In other words, men strictly prefer women with their own level of ambition to women more ambitious than they are. A two-tailed test on the significance of the sum of the coefficient reveals that this effect is statistically significant ( p 0.05). The results on intelligence are qualitatively similar to those on ambition: no slope change for females while for males the slope change at the self-rated level is significant; additionally, the implied effect of increased intelligence above a man’s selfrated level (given by the sum of the two coefficients) is negative, though insignificantly so. When we use Otheric (i.e., the average rating of subject i by his partners on characteristic c) in place of Selfic in columns (3) and (4), we obtain similar results.12 Hence, we demonstrate that on average men do not value women’s intelligence or ambition when it exceeds their own; moreover, a man is less likely to select a woman whom he perceives to be more ambitious than he is.
Footnote 12:
One exception is the increased attention to attractiveness that women exhibit toward more attractive men.
It's interesting the coefficient I highlighted in the pic, which happens to be one of the highest coefficients among all of the interaction terms, is relegated to brief mention in the footnotes. Its omission as a finding is conspicuous. Following the examples of how the other interaction terms' coefficients have been interpreted, the statement regarding this coefficient should have read: On average, a woman is more likely to select a man who she rates higher than how she, herself, is rated by other men on average (column 3), irrespective of her own self-rating (column 1) This finding may be secondary to the fact women generally rate men harsher than men rate women in this study (and others).
While missing the above blackpills, the paper does end with recognizing a few others: namely, racial homogamy, which is stronger in women, and female selectivity, which increases with larger mate group size (i.e., women uniquely become more selective the more romantic targets are available -- perhaps has some import for some online dating observations, such as the top 5% male "superstar effect")
Obvious caveats:

2018.01.06 10:07 lilmisscopypaster I speed dated the Devil.

I speed dated the Devil.
Let me explain, a while ago, I was at a bar with some friends. They had all collectively felt bad for me since my boyfriend had broken up with me a few days prior and they wanted to give me a good time I suppose.
For some reason however, I felt...Unnerved. Like someone was watching me, but when I turned around no one was. Weird.
Anyways, a few hours went by and my friend suggested I try speeddating. I’d never really considered it before, the thought of going made me feel sick.
“C’mon, it could be fun! You never know, you might meet some hot stud.”
“Yeah, sure.” I said sarcastically.
“No, come on! This is your chance, you’re young, sexy and single. Plus, you’re bumming me out being all...Lonely and stuff. What do you have to lose?”
I would later come to realize I would have in fact, a shitton to lose. But I did it anyway, after all I was lonely and if I really was depressing my friends I guessed I should give it a shot.
I got all dressed up, put on some lipstick, a low cut red dress, hoop earrings and gold heels.
When I got there, we had a few minutes to talk to other people, then we chose who to pick at the end of the night. Great.
Most of the men were mouthbreathing neckbeards who looked like they’d never talked to a woman much less dated one. Pretty sure half the guys had BO or just got nervous sweating.
The last man, however...Was completely out of place. Like a jigsaw piece that didn’t fit.
He had slick black hair, he was wearing a high collared striped red shirt and black jeans. His eyes seemed somehow...Different. Like he’d seen some shit. I assumed he must have been tired from the bags under his eyes but he seemed to be bright and chipper enough.
The thing that stood out to me the most, however, was his smile. It was bright but it was wide and slightly unnerving. Like his teeth were having trouble fitting in his mouth, it was far too many teeth. They were perfectly straight though.
He looked like he was in his early thirties and had a thick british accent. He had a moustache and beard which framed his strong jaw perfectly. I was immediately intimidated, not being in contact with a handsome man in weeks, I smiled nervously.
“Hello, there.” He said, his voice like melted butter to my ears. “Uh, hello!” I said, far too enthusiastic, I mentally kicked myself. “Sorry, I- I don’t normally do this.” I said, nervously.
“Oh, it’s completely fine, darling, I’m new to this myself.”
I almost choked at the pet name, my face and ears heating up, which he probably could see.
Something about this man made me weak to my knees even sitting down, fuck. He was nothing like any other man I’d ever gone out with before, much less in the room.
The few minutes seemed to fly by, I asked him what he worked as he said he worked in an office of sorts. Sometimes, he said, it would get stressful but it paid well. His last boss fired him, apparently, he described him as being a dick which I laughed at. He told me his name was Lucielle. At the end of the session he kissed the back of my hand and got up from our table.
Needless to say, I knew the man I was picking at the end of the date. We went back to my place afterwards, I invited him in and it only took a few minutes before he was making out with me up against the door.
The sex. Was. Amazing. This guy was a fucking monster in bed, he’d obviously had some practice.
I assumed in the morning, he’d want to leave, as most guys in speed dates do, but he didn’t. In fact when I woke in the morning, he was making breakfast. Bacon and eggs.
“Hey handsome.” I said, brushing the hair from my eyes, noticing the large tee shirt I was buried in. I couldn’t even remember putting it on but it was too large to be mine. I blushed.
“Hi sleepyhead. Here, made this for you.” He handed me a plate of hash browns and eggs shaped like hearts. How the fuck did he even do that?
“I kinda thought you’d be gone in the morning.” I said, picking at my eggs which tasted amazing. Damn this guy was a chef too?
“Why would you think that?” He sat down next to me.
“I dunno, most guys don’t wanna stay around for long after...Y’know.”
“Well I guess I’m not like most men.”
“I suppose not.” I chuckled.
He took my hand in his and kissed the back of it, making me blush.
Those dangerous eyes stared into mine and I smiled.
“I think...I’m addicted to you.” He said. “Is that so?”
I laughed and we shared the morning together before I had to head off for work. I gave him my number and that was that. We began dating, and it was fucking amazing. Probably some of the best months of my life, if not the best. And, like I said, the sex was top notch.
But...After a while, he began to get...Clingy. Not just in a cute way he’d wait for me to get home, like he hadn’t had anything better to do, like a puppy waiting for his owner to come home. Although, most of the time I felt like he was the owner and I was the dog.
He’d ask me to stay home from work to be with him and when I said no he’d get angry, telling me I was unappreciative and bad for the relationship. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the man but at a certain point...There is only so much you can put up with.
That point came one night when I was out drinking with a bunch of friends, I even told him I was, he knew I would be out most of the night but he kept texting and calling, telling me to come home, that he missed me.
I was leaving with my friend, Johan, when I saw him. He was waiting for me. He was waiting for me in a fucking alley and waiting to pounce on Johan, beating him almost to a pulp. I told him to stop, screamed at him, pulling at his arms and shoulders, but he pushed me back, looking at me with dangerous eyes. I swear to god for a split second, I thought they were a blood red. Maybe it was my imagination, maybe it was on account of how bloodshot they were but I know what I saw and it scared the shit out of me.
He didn’t stop until there was blood on his face and his fists were bruised.
He dropped Johan to the ground and I yelled at him.
“What the fuck were you thinking?! What did you do, you monster!” I screamed, rushing to Johan’s side, thanking christ when I noted he was still breathing.
“Yeah, that’s right, I’m the monster.” He growled, staring at me then Johan’s crumpled body.
“I’ll see you at home.”
And that was that. He left me and my friend in the alley, at three AM, the rain pouring on both of us, probably stinging Johan’s beaten face.
I called an ambulance, they asked what happened and I told them some man attacked him.
I don’t even think Johan remembered what happened. Maybe he was too scared to talk about it. Couldn’t blame him.
He never talked to me after that. I just lost a friendship because of my dickhead boyfriend and there was nothing I could do.
Well, there was one thing.
I sent him a text message that read “We’re through, asshole.” And I never went back home.
I called my mom to pick me up and stayed at her home.
After a while I got my stuff from my place when I knew he was gone and after a while, I started dating again.
However, I couldn’t stop thinking about Lucielle. When I dreamt I could see his eyes staring back at me. When I had sex with my new boyfriend, I thought of him.
A few weeks went by and I got more and more depressed. My boyfriend didn’t seem to notice, or maybe he didn’t care.
One night, I got home from work. My feet hurt and I was stressed so I was relieved to be home. When I reached for the door handle, however, I noticed...The door was already open.
“Babe?” I said, laying my keys down. As I entered my home I felt terror run through me to see all the lights were turned off and a smear of crimson trailed through the hall, leading into the kitchen.
I followed, trying to control my shaking.
“...Babe? Please talk to me…” I whispered, mostly to myself.
When I got to the kitchen, I screamed. I couldn’t even hear myself, I stood in terror, looking at the crumpled remains of my boyfriend.
“Oh god, oh god please no!” I wished, I prayed to god that what I was seeing was some fucking nightmare, I closed my eyes tightly and sobbed before opening them again, screaming once again as I realized I wasn’t dreaming.
His body looked...Burned. Melted, almost, his flesh peeling off his face, his eyes stuck in a perpetual state of wide agony.
“Fuck, please, please!” I gripped the sides of my head, pulling at my hair,
“What, you didn’t think you’d seen the last of me, did you?” I heard a familiar voice from behind me.
I turned, facing Lucielle. Only...He was different now. His eyes were a deep red, his smile now broken and stretched, his skin a hellish red, what looked like horns protruding from his head, curling up like a ram.
“Oh god...Why, why would you do this, you monster! You’re a fucking monster!” I screamed, pounding into his hard chest, tears streaming from my face.
“Yes that’s right darling...I’m the monster.” He said and I felt myself slip into darkness, passing out. I didn’t even feel him catching me.
I awoke in my apartment.
He was fucking making breakfast, back to his normal self.
“What the fuck… What the fuck?!” I said, trying to get up from bed, but I felt a force begin to push me down, pinning me to the bed once again.
“Now, now, let’s not get into an argument.” He said, handing me a plate of eggs and hash browns. I slapped the plate out of his hands and he frowned. For a second I thought he was going to strike me, but it never came.
He snapped his fingers and the plate rematerialized in his hands. Heart shaped eggs. So that’s how he did it.
“Come, eat your eggs, you need to eat, darling.”
“Don’t.” I said.
“Don’t what? Don’t fawn over my beautiful girlfriend?”
“I am not your girlfriend.”
He grinned, placing a kiss on my head.
“Of course you are. After all, your old boyfriend broke up with you, remember?” He said, I felt rage boiling over me.
“He didn’t break up with me, you killed him you fucking degenerate!”
He frowned, shaking his head.
“No, no that’s not what happened.” He said, simply.
“Yeah, it was!”
“Come now, do you really think he would have treated you like I treat you?” “Stop.”
“Did he kiss you like I do? Hold you like me, look like me?”
“I said stop!”
“Did he make you feel the way I do?”
I didn’t answer. At this point I had no idea if what he was saying was wrong. I was so confused, my head buzzing.
He brought a hand up to stroke hair behind my ear and smiled softly. My heart pounded in my chest.
“And...After what I am about to tell you, you will never leave me again.”
I said nothing. He smiled again, and reached over to me, pulling up my shirt.
“Hey, what are you doing assho-”
He placed both his warm hands on my stomach and I felt my heart drop.
“We’re going to have a child.”

2017.11.17 23:12 yramagicman Using Vim 8 package loader [tip][guide]

Too long, don't care. What's the point?

I've recently taken to using the package functionality in Vim 8. It's really wonderful. My ~/.vimrc is 2 lines that open netrw if in a directory and tell vim where to find the rest of my stuff, which ends up being about 435 lines of code. With the way I have things set to lazy load, vim --startuptime reports things loading in 100msec or less.

I'm sufficiently intrigued, how does it work?

Create a directory in your ~/.vim/ where you want to keep your packages. I've chosen to call it pack. Then, in your .vimrc set your packpath to point to that directory, like this set packpath+=~/.vim/pack/. Now inside ~/.vim/pack create a second (or a couple directories) directory to contain all your plugins, I've chosen the name vendor for third-party stuff, and mine for my own stuff. In that directory create two more directories called start and opt. You should have a structure that looks like this
/home/yramagicman/.vim/pack ├── mine │ ├── opt │ └── start └── vendor ├── opt └── start 6 directories, 0 files
Once you have that, put packages you want to load when vim starts in the start directory(s) and packages you want to load later in the opt directories. From there Vim will do the work. It automatically sources plugins in the start directory. For plugins in the opt directory, see :help packadd.
Final thing. Plugins still have to follow the standard Vim plugin structrue. My mine directory looks like this, for example:
/home/yramagicman/.vim/pack/mine ├── opt │ ├── autocmds │ │ └── plugin │ │ └── autocmds.vim │ └── mappings │ └── plugin │ └── mappings.vim └── start ├── config │ └── plugin │ └── config.vim └── extensions └── plugin └── extensions.vim 10 directories, 4 files

What about my package manager?

Your package manager loads everything via vimscript. This works, but it's not great. Vimscript is slow, and filesystem access is even slower. Letting Vim do the work gives you a much faster experience. (Note: I'm assuming the Vim Plugin loader isn't written in vimscript here. I might be wrong about this. Either way, my experience has been that letting the builtin package loader do the work is faster.)

How am I going to manage my plugins now?

As far as I know, I don't do research about existing solutions before starting a project. So I've written my own package installeremover that leverages the existing functionality of Vim 8, both for parallel install, and for loading packages. It works, but it's not very fancy. The only thing this has over the defacto standard vim-plug and friends is speed. I'm working on an auto-update feature, but that's going to need some time. With the usual vim-plug startup times look like this:
114.915 000.002: --- VIM STARTED --- 124.198 000.001: --- VIM STARTED --- 149.028 000.001: --- VIM STARTED --- 153.213 000.002: --- VIM STARTED ---
Using my very basic package installer and Vim 8's builtin loading my startup times look like this:
086.355 000.006: --- VIM STARTED --- 095.883 000.003: --- VIM STARTED --- 074.545 000.001: --- VIM STARTED --- 095.648 000.002: --- VIM STARTED --- 078.504 000.001: --- VIM STARTED --- 089.626 000.002: --- VIM STARTED ---
Granted, some of the optimizations that contribute to that come from lazy-loading, which can also be done with vim-plug as was shown in this post several days ago. Some of that is also due to the fact that my plugin manager also loads faster. I haven't done the math, but I think, based on the looks of it, it loads about twice as fast as vim-plug.
Right now, this is just a script in my dotfiles. I can break it out into it's own repository if there's interest. Here's the link, if you want to check it out:

How does this work?

It's pretty similar to vim-plug. You call a function that loads the package manager, then call more functions that load the packages, and Vim does the rest of the work. It looks something like this:
call pack#load() PlugStart 'editorconfig/editorconfig-vim' PlugStart 'tpope/vim-commentary' PlugStart 'vim-scripts/vim-indent-object' PlugStart 'tpope/vim-surround' PlugStart 'bronson/vim-visual-star-search' PlugOpt 'dzeban/vim-log-syntax' PlugOpt 'mileszs/ack.vim' PlugOpt 'sjl/clam.vim' PlugOpt 'shougo/neocomplete.vim' PlugOpt 'shawncplus/phpcomplete.vim' PlugOpt 'leafgarland/typescript-vim' PlugOpt 'jceb/vim-orgmode' PlugOpt 'tpope/vim-speeddating' PlugOpt 'hail2u/vim-css3-syntax' PlugOpt 'vim-scripts/Sass' PlugOpt 'othree/html5.vim' command! -nargs=* Ack :packadd ack.vim Ack command! -nargs=* Clam :packadd clam.vim Clam autocmd! FileType vim, css, scss, sass, html, javascript, python, php packadd neocomplete.vim autocmd! FileType php packadd phpcomplete.vim autocmd! BufRead *.ts set filetype=typescript autocmd! FileType typescript packadd typescript-vim autocmd! FileType html packadd html5.vim
I've created commands that load Clam and Ack.vim lazilly. The Clam command works, but there's a bug in the Ack command. I'll have to figure that out later.
The auto-commands load plugins based on filetype. packadd is the way to tell Vim to load a plugin in opt. See :help packadd for more info.

The competition

The only competition I know of is minipac which looks good, but I haven't tried it. I prefer the syntax of vim-plug and Vundle to the function calls of minipac, however, so that's a (very) small mark against a plugin I haven't tried.

2017.03.07 12:15 TooManyThrowAway4567 Where to meet girls ?

I know that question might seem pathetic but it's legitimate.
Some backstory : I'm a french 27 yo guy, I'm not too ugly (I hope), I have a job, an apartment etc.
I had a very long relationship (7 years) with a girl I met in high school. We were kind of introvert, like we preferred staying inside together, playing videogames, watching movies or whatever than going out with friends.
After that, I got a LDR with a girl I met in the US, I visited her once, she visited me once but she decided it was too expensive to keep that relashionship (ouch). In the same way, since it was a LDR, we spent a lot of time on the phone/skype/texting and not so much outside.
That relashionship lasted 1.5 years and ended 2 weeks ago (I might seem insensitive but it was/is really hard).
Now I'm trying to find someone else to share my life with. Except I don't have any connection / ways to meet new girls.
I work in IT so my coworkers are mostly males, mostly married/with kids.
I tried Online dating website (Meetic) with absolutely no success. I tried tinder with very little success too (in the US it was way better).
So there goes my question : in what kind of places can I meet single girls ? I thought about dancing lessons but i'm so clumsy ! I also thought about speeddating but it's like 25€ a night.
Thanks for your suggestions
EDIT: If you want, I can pm you a picture of me, maybe you can tell me what to change about me physically

2016.09.08 16:52 trichtrich I [25F] Have Never Been In A Relationship. I Think I'm Doing Something Wrong.

Hey reddit.
I'm at my wit's end here. I hope it's not stupid. Sorry if I'm a bit incoherent here and there - this is troubling me a lot and English isn't my first language.
I've struggled with depression/anxiety since childhood and I think this has something to do with this issue.
All throughout my youth I've been having crushes on people, been in love with some, and just in general had strong feelings about other people. I'm unsure of my sexuality but I currently identify as bisexual. Most of my crushes and infatuations have been on girls.
I've never been in a relationship. I've confessed my feelings to people and I've gotten rejected - which is fine. I'm still close friends with some of these people and they're important parts of my life.
I've never french kissed, never had intercourse, nothing of the likes. The most intimate I've gotten was a short kiss on the lips. Or snuggles.
But something happened recently. A friend [27M] confessed that he's into me. We spent some time together and to be honest initially I was charmed by how nice he was to me? But I just didn't feel it. And so I told him. And he was really understanding.
But I feel like something's wrong with me. I'm a nerdy kid so I don't go to parties or whatever, I've tried online dating... I've tried asking among friends if they think they know someone who would be interested in going on a date... I've even considered speeddating. I really want a romantic relationship.
To be honest, just a few dates would be nice for a start. I don't know how to do it though. I've even attempted to get myself drunk enough to be less inhibited when interacting with strangers. But I'm terrible at that, too (I stop drinking as soon as i get sleepy, almost automatically). I know that's a stupid thing to do, thankfully nothing happened.
I'm just... lost. I don't know where even to start. I want to make these kinds of experiences. I'm not even aiming for something long term or anything... ugh. I'm babbling.
I guess I can try to boil it down to what I think might be my main issues?
TL;DR I can't seem to be able to have romantic relationships. I want one, though.
